Beyond the Binary is a blog examining the nonbinary
experience. Initially, this idea was bred out of frustration to describe to
people who questioned my gender WHY identifying as neither male nor female was
okay. I didn’t have the words to describe how wrong the binary system of gender
is. As I began to speak to other nonbinary and trans individuals I realized
that many of us don’t have the words. What is the history behind nonbinary
identities? What are the genetics involved? And WHY is it so damn
controversial?
I am now writing this series for my fellow nonbinary
folks that are lacking the shared cultural history that comes with being part
of a minority group. I hope that with this, we’ll be able to understand where
we come from and how we belong in this big angry world. In these posts, we’ll
talk about the basics of biology, psychology, genetics, anthropology, history,
sociology, and religion. I hope that we can give context to our shared
experience, so that we can understand each other better, and maybe so that
others can understand us <3
